Thankful: Good kids
My kids drive me bonkers. No, really. There are moments when I question my sanity and then long to hide in a corner with the last cookie and a large Cheerwine.
It’s hard being a mom of four and working from home. I’m not a typical stay-at-home-mom like many believe I am. I know most people probably assume I have so much time on my hands and that I’m able to just watch some TV while eating Cheetos. That’s not entirely true.
Between diapers and wiping noses and lunch and naps and laundry, I have to work. I’m a little crazy throughout the day, but I am able to accomplish my work (and sometimes more) because the Lord gifted me with the ability to multitask — and to type quickly.
But no amount of multitasking ability would matter if my kids weren’t as awesome as they are.
While they may drive me bonkers here and there, for the most part I have really good kids.
They get it when I say, “Mommy has a meeting.” My 2 year old even understands and then MOUTHS to me when he needs something. How many 2 year olds do you know who understand they need to be quiet?
And today, when I was feeling super sick, he laid his head on my tummy and said, “I make you feel better.” Be still, my heart.
My ten year old can really up her game when she realizes it’s important. I cannot express my appreciation for her enough. On days when Math Man isn’t off work in time for me to attend an online meeting, she steps up and is a great help.
And the four year old? He gets it and is empathetic. I overhear him telling his little brother, “Shh! Mommy is trying to work!” when I’m on an important phone call.
Is this how I envisioned staying home with my kids? Not really. I was supposed to have a shiny kitchen and vacuumed floors. Work was supposed to be easy and nap times were going to provide that opportunity to get it all done.
Reality is hilarious. But my kids? I have good kids.
