So, I kinda published a book
Yeah, you read that correctly. I published a book!
All my life — or really, as long as I can remember — I have dreamed of writing my own book. I knew it would be a children’s book, and I have been writing stories or making them up for kids for what feels like forever.
In the third grade, I wrote the script for a “screenplay” for a movie festival my class entered. It won “Superior.” I’m thinking that was my first taste of success.
I was kind of nerdy as a kid and watched Reading Rainbow incessantly in the summer (my brother and I also read the encyclopedia — so shoot us). Anyway, one of the episodes showed how to create your own book. So, I did. Multiple times.
My shelves in my bedroom were lined with books that I had cataloged and stamped with my personal “Home Library” stamp made out of an eraser that I carved with a safety pin.
My fifth grade teacher had us write a book in the style of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (mine was If You Give a Monkey a Banana, and Miss Sassy Pants still loves it to this day).
You can see I was destined for this moment.
I chose an independent book publishing company to publish my story, A Day to Remember.
My friend, Richard, agreed to illustrate for me (he did a killer job).
And the rest, well, is history.
So now, I’m basking in the beautiful glory that is the published book sitting on my mantle. Every now and again, I glance at it, struggling to believe it’s really mine, and that’s really my name on the front.
If you want to (hint hint), you can find it either at Booklocker or Amazon.
Stay tuned, though — I’ll be throwing a Twitter party or two in the future. I’d love you to be there.
