Nogii: Healthy and Yummy
Normally, it’s not a good thing for kids to fight over food, right? But in our house, we’re dealing with boys who generally won’t eat meat. Or beans. Or eggs. Basically, we struggle to find ways for our 2 and 4 year olds to get protein. Peanut butter, cheese, and yogurt are helpful, but you can only eat so much of these.
Last year, we tried some protein bars and discovered that our Animal (the 4 year old) really liked them — especially because we called them “cookie bars.” Thinking he was eating a cookie made eating the food that much more amazing.
But finding “cookie bars” that aren’t full of junk is hard. Or, it’s expensive. At the same time, you can’t really put a price on your children’s nutrition or health, right?
Nogii Protein Bars have been an answer to our problems. Because they are high in protein, our boys can generally split one and get a good amount of protein. And yes, they fight over which one they are going to have for the day.
Their favorites are the Cookies and Cream (they say it has icing on it!) or the Rocky Road (also supposedly containing icing according to our boys). They beg for “cookie bars” daily – often at every meal – and I love that I’m not worried about what ingredients these contain.
Math Man (my husband) is a Power Lifter. This means that on any given workout day, he could be lifting 500 or more pounds. Protein is something he worries about getting, and he often needs a lot to help his muscles develop, stay strong, and hold energy. He tries to fight all of us over the Chocolate Coconut bar. He also really likes the Super Protein bar that has 30 grams of protein in one serving! Like minty chocolate cookies? The Chocolate Mint bar takes me back to Girl Scout days – but without the artificial ingredients.
Nogii brand was created by Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the best selling author of The G-Free Diet and Deliciously G-Free. Nogii products are gluten free as well as free of trans fat, hydrogenated oils, and high fructose corn syrup.
You’d think with all of that stuff missing, they’d have a funky protein bar taste. Wrong. They are absolutely delicious, and if I’m not careful, I’ll end up eating multiple throughout the day.
Nogii also offers Paleo Bars. I, personally, am not too keen on them as I am not a fan of fruit in a bar (I prefer mine fresh or baked in a pie!), but Math Man and Flash (2 year old) really enjoyed trying the Nuts about Berries bar (no dairy, no soy, no high fructose corn syrup, no gluten, no trans fat, no peanuts).
If you’re looking for a solution to gluten-laden protein bars, I highly recommend Nogii.
