New favorite workout: The Deck of Cards
For some, the Deck of Cards workout is no revolutionary exercise routine. But for me (the not-so-schooled-in-multiple-exercise-ideas), when Aaron (my husband) suggested it as a way to mix up my physical activity, I had to give it a try.
On the day that I was to find out if I was a Mamavation Mom for Campaign 17, I decided to assign myself the Deck of Cards workout. In the end, I loved it and hated it. Loved it for the variety and the competition I was having with myself. Hated it because @MrBookieboo ended up assigning us a lot more hazing workouts before the announcement was made (and thus, I was crazy tired by the end of the night).
In a nutshell:
- Get a deck of cards.
- Decide on four exercises – one exercise to correlate with each of the suits. (Variation: keep the jokers in and decide on your most difficult exercise just for those).
- Put the deck of cards down and start drawing. If you draw a King of hearts, you’ll do 13 reps of the exercise that the heart represents.
Easy enough, right? Believe me, I was pushing. When I pulled the same suit three times in a row, I was laughing and then crying just a little.
Here’s how I did mine:
Notice that I added in the Joker so that I could do an exercise that really pushed me and that I only wanted to do a couple of times (in this instance, I did 60 second planks).
Have you ever done a Deck of Cards workout? What were the exercises in your sets?
If you’ve never done this or heard of this before, what exercises might you use?
