Multi Colored Baltic Amber Teething Necklace (Review)
My kids get teeth early. Like, for real. They get all of their basic baby teeth well before they are 12 months old. This means that at the early age of about 2 months, their gums are itching. Poor things can’t get their hands there to help themselves out, and they certainly can’t put a toy to their mouth (with any real discretion) to chew on.
With Miss Sassy Pants (over 10 years ago now), I used medicine to help her out. I didn’t think at the time about the dyes and other sugars and ingredients that might not be so good for her. I was just desperate to help her.
With the Animal (over 4 years ago), I discovered teething tablets. I guess they helped? I used them pretty regularly according to the bottle’s ingredients. He was a pacifier user, so he got some relief that way, I’m thinking.
Flash (going back to 2 years ago), was a pretty chill baby. While he drooled and tried to eat anything he could (I called him our Zombie), I was mostly able to just use the teething tablets. I tried a necklace with him (this was a new phenomenon for me), but I couldn’t get past the idea that my little boy was wearing a necklace. This is something that, 2 years later, I’d be completely over if I could go back in time. Funny what we get in our minds!
But now, Baby Diva is almost 4 months old, and we’ve been dealing with itching gums and general unrest for quite a few weeks now.
I was lucky enough to get to try a baltic amber teething necklace (I had given Flash’s to a friend when her baby was struggling), and I’ve had multiple people ask me if it works.
I’m going to have to say, I think it really does.
She seems less annoyed when she’s wearing it. While she sleeps, I wrap it around her ankle and either put her pajamas on or pull a sock over. Otherwise, she has it around her neck. She doesn’t pull on it or even seem to notice it. My thought is that, because she wears it regularly, it will just be something she ignores anyway.
I tried an experiment the other day. I took it off of her when she woke for the day. I wanted to see if she’d behave differently.
She did!
Her day was a lot less happy. She seemed uncomfortable, and she struggled to nap.
So, that night, I put it right back on her foot to sleep. The next day was much better.
You might be thinking that these are dangerous. Couldn’t a child pull it off and choke on the beads?
This necklace is built in a way that keeps children from separating the beads. They are safety knotted (meaning, there is a knot on either side of each bead) to keep them from all falling off if the necklace were to break. A few more interesting facts about the baltic amber teething necklace:
