Mamavation Monday: Shutting the Duck Up
And by duck, I really mean duck. I told you I’ve been learning from Pete Cohen, (@petecohen_) the Weightloss Guru, about how to change my lifestyle and make wise choices when it comes to my health, diet, and fitness.
One of the most fun tools he taught me about this week was learning how to “shut the duck up.” While that may sound like I’m just using a euphemism so that my mom can read my posts without cringing, there’s really more to it. Let me explain.
As Pete told me, the way we talk to ourselves is pretty instrumental in the way our life goes. Is the voice inside our head positive or negative? And, as Pete asks, “What stops us from being more positive?”
I can say that I am positive in general. But, I do have a pretty low self-image in many respects. Aaron laughs at me when I comment on my appearance and insists that I’m harder on myself than I need to be. He’s right.
As Pete suggests, this voice that I have in my head that makes me sputter the words, “This hair-do makes me look like a dude,” or “I really hate myself in these pants, I need to just wear sweats,” is like a duck that won’t stop quacking. Those negative energy words that are swimming around in my brain are just like an obnoxious duck that won’t shut up. So, I need to “shut the duck up.”
This is my goal for this next week. Last week, I wanted to focus on eating slower, and I did pretty well. This week, I’m going to start “shutting the duck up” and keep it from quacking!
How can you help yourself think more positively?
This week on Mamavation TV, we’re learning about the Paleo Diet. Have you ever heard of this way of life? I’m very curious and wondering how I can begin it with my little family of four. Eating healthy and getting rid of the junk is important to me. I think starting as school gets going again will be a perfect time to do this. The bonus is that Aaron is game to try it!
Join me tonight as we learn about Paleo!
