Jammy Jams – "Hair Metal Goes Lullaby"
As a child of the ’80s with two brothers who plastered their bedroom walls with pictures from heavy metal magazines, bands like Motley Crue and Poison hold a distinct place in my heart. My oldest brother forced my younger brother to memorize the names of the members of Mötley Crüe, and I was jamming out to Stryper and Whitesnake when many other elementary girls were only listening to Tiffany and Debbie Gibson.
It may seem weird, but those hair metal songs of the 80s can send me on a nostalgic trip. And it doesn’t take too long before I recognize the opening chords and am back in my brothers’ rooms in the basement surrounded by pictures of Queensrÿche and Cinderella (not the Disney version).
Because there are other parents out there who enjoy our childhood music and want to share it with their children, I can now introduce these headbang-worthy songs to my kids in the form of lullabies. They can learn to love the songs as much as I did (and do) while being lulled to sleep or relaxing before a nap.
In the new Jammy Jams album, “Hair Metal Goes Lullaby,” the 80s hair bands go “lite” and are perfect for your little headbanger-to-be.
Each lullaby version of the popular hair metal songs is light enough to lull your baby or child into a sleepy state but close enough to the original to cause you to sing along in your head. In fact, I’ve already been dramatically singing along to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Skid Row’s “I Remember You.”
But it doesn’t just stop at hair metal. Jammy Jams has 9 albums of varying genres — and the list is growing.
There’s “Once upon a Rhyme” featuring hits from Outkast, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and more.
There’s even “Lullabylooza” for all the 90s Alternative Rock fans featuring Spacehog (one of my favorites!), Nirvana, and Faith No More.
Jammy Jams is the creation of Jeff Bradford who wanted to create songs that would soothe babies to sleep but also entertain parents. I’d say he was pretty darn successful!
