Getting Creative: DIY Zipper Earrings
Miss Sassy Pants is all about her accessories. She especially loves earrings, and she wants to go shopping all the time to add to her collection. Unfortunately for her, she doesn’t have her ears pierced. Her choices are relatively limited. On our most recent mommy/daughter excursion, she was on a mission to find clip-on zipper earrings. We did not find them, and she was pretty bummed out.
I told her we could just do it ourselves. She loved this idea, so I went to the store to get the equipment I didn’t have on hand: clip-on earring backs and E6000 glue. Zippers were already in our closet because I once had the notion that I could totally make zipper bracelets (which I could, but then I just forgot to keep doing it).
Miss Sassy Pants made her choice of colors. We took the zipper piece off and realized that the clip-on back was too large to match up to the zipper without looking weird.
She had a great idea to make something like a background for her zipper earrings. We thought about cutting pieces of the zipper material and gluing on to the post. Then, we looked in all the buttons we have in my button collection from my mom (it’s a lot of buttons!).
Miss Sassy Pants found two that she liked, and we tried to figure out different ways to attach the button and zipper to the post. First, we tried thread — for some reason, that made sense. Then, we realized with the very handy E6000, we could really just glue stuff together. So, that’s what we did.
Check out our designer earrings! She’s super pumped to wear them to school tomorrow and show them off. And what did it cost me? Just about nothing but a few minutes of time with my favorite girl.
