Games
I’m participating in the A to Z Blogging Challenge. Today’s letter is G.
Growing up, my younger brother and I played tons of board games. Life was my favorite followed closely by Guess Who. We didn’t have many options for things to fill our time back then. There were no iPods or iPads. YouTube didn’t exist. We were lucky toward the end of our “childhood” when Prodigy became something of a thing. So, we spent many of our summer mornings playing games or cards (we were awesome at War).
Most of the games that my brother and I played are in my house now in the closet. Miss Sassy Pants asks every now and again to play one after her brothers go to bed. We’ve tried out Scrabble and Life.
When the door to the closet is left open just enough, the Animal will start pointing and asking for us to take games down. We’ve stumbled upon a few of his favorites, and I love that one is a favorite from my childhood.
He loves Candy Land. Right now, it’s probably the only game we have that he can actually play and follow the directions in a manner that actually matches the expectations of the game. Today, he told me I was the “green guy,” and I just needed to “play the cards.”
He also loves Guess Who. This one makes me really happy because of how much I loved it as a kid. Right now, I just tell him to put down the people with yellow hair or those with glasses. It makes him really focus, and I think it’s a fabulous teaching tool. I know he’s too young yet to understand the real point of the game.
And then there’s Scrabble. At this point, he just loves ABCs and anything we can do to “play the letters.” We spent a good portion of our morning putting the letters in alphabetical order. Another pretty great teaching tool.
What are some of your favorite games from your childhood? Do your kids play them?

I loved playing Monopoly, but I don’t recall ever getting to the end of a game! I actually love all kinds of board games, but no one will play with me. My kids are just starting to be able to play them. We have some fun card games they got from Chick-Fil-A this past weekend we’ve been playing.
Monopoly totally takes forever. I love when they can play along. Can’t wait for the boys to be able to!
I love Scrabble! On our last vacation there was a pool with a bench in the middle and my hubby & I were able to play our travel Scrabble while *in* the swimming pool. So fun!
Here at home, my husband grudgingly agreed to play Battleship with me in the hot tub. He ended up loving it!
Hmm… Never realized my penchant for board games in water before!

Haha! I love Battleship – haven’t played in forever. We even had the electronic one that spoke – were they all electronic? Or did I just feel special all my childhood?
