For my mom
This weekend is Mother’s Day, and it would be wrong of me to not take a moment to give my mom some public love…
Dear Mom,
For the past thirty-some years, you have taken such good care of me. You taught me to sing, walk, dance, laugh, drive a stick, and raise my own children. You were there for me when my friends were hateful, when my brothers teased me, when my first marriage fell apart, and when I found my forever-love. You have endured my jokes, my tears, and my opinions.
I love you, Mom. To say that I’m lucky isn’t saying enough. There are plenty of people out there whose moms are no longer with them or whose moms have never been around. The fact that you’re not only still here with me but right next door and willing to talk to me daily means more than you’ll ever know.
Thank you for loving me.
Thank you for helping me.
Thank you for understanding me.
Thank you for putting up with me.
Most of all, thank you for standing up for what you believe in at all times even if it results in a lecture from my know-it-all mouth.
I love you, Mom,
Lydia
