Favorite Healthy Shake: Chocolate!
When I was part of the bootcamp, I was on a diet that limited my sugar intake (to basically none except for what was naturally in fruits and other foods). I was okay with giving up the cookies and the cake, and I did a really good job of giving up my nightly ice cream treat.
It did get to the point, however, where I really felt like I needed some chocolate. I asked my fellow bootcamp participants for some smoothie ideas since they were constantly talking about “green smoothies.” I tried to do some of what they suggested, but no matter how much I tried, I couldn’t get past the taste of the banana or the smell of vegetables.
Flash started having some symptoms that told me he may be allergic to milk or have a sensitivity to dairy. Because I had upped my milk intake, I was noticing a serious change in his diaper output. So, I decided to back off of dairy for a bit. This left me searching for a way to have some sort of milk (I like the texture). I tried soy. Blech. I tried almond. Meh. Then I discovered dark chocolate almond.
Ok – this was pretty good. It had enough of an after taste that I knew I didn’t want to drink it alone, but with my peanut butter and banana nightly snack, it was a great addition.
This led me to try to make a chocolate shake using some of what Jessie had suggested. It turned out wonderfully, and it met the standards of my Mamavation detox diet. It was actually a healthy shake that didn’t include vegetables! (You would want to seek out organic, non-GMO versions of ingredients.)
Enjoy!

I like a shake with peanut butter, chocolate syrup, frozen banana and milk. Not healthy or anything, but it’s YUM!! 🙂
I don’t know – the banana is sure to make it healthy. 🙂
simple and delicious! I’m a big fan of smoothies for breakfasts & snacks – I usually load mine up with greens b/c I find it a really easy way to get loads of veg in easily – a salad in a glass, essentially!
I’m glad you can do that — I just can’t get past the veggie smell or texture!! I wish I could. 😉
Sounds DE-LISH, I can’t wait to try this 🙂
It really is very tasty!
My husband would love this he loves PB and chocolate, I’m not a huge fan of either, but may make this for him. Thanks for sharing
Yay! I am really, really picky. This was a way to have a shake and feel like I was being bad without being too bad.
I love that idea! I will try and add a banana – yummy in my tummy!
Oh, it’s so yummy. I don’t care for the banana taste – if you like banana, go for it! 🙂
Have you crossed over to the chocolate mousse made with avocados and topped with raspberries yet? Just curious. And yeah, I actually do like it.
I have never tried this. I’m actually JUST NOW starting to like avocados that aren’t in guacamole. Like, I’ve been putting it in a salad. I feel all grown up. 🙂
Who could ever say no to chocolate? Yummmmmm
Yummmm is right. But I do have a friend who hates chocolate!
What’s the brand of Dark Chocolate Almond Milk you found? I picked up chocolate almond milk but it was quite bland still. Maybe a deeper chocolate flavor would help. I want to find this one. Thanks!!
