Dear Mr. Daylight Savings

Dear Mr. Daylight Savings

Ahh, we are graced with another Daylight Savings event. I want to like this time. Actually, I used to LOVE the change — it meant later evenings and baseball games. It meant hanging out on the porch and talking.

But now I have multiple babies, and Daylight Savings means one real thing: messing with the sleep schedules I so diligently worked to create.

It’s just not helpful, Mr. Daylight Savings, for you to keep flip-flopping each year. Can we just go ahead and choose a time — and stick with it? Even without the time changing this morning, it was bright at 6:15 am (yes, I’m up that early with at least one if not three children).

Why change the time when the sun is already doing the work for you (or is it Earth that’s spinning differently? I don’t know — you get my point)?

I think many parents would agree with me: Daylight Savings just cramps our parenting and getting-to-sleep-in style.

Yes, it says DAYLIGHT’S – I know, I know. I blame my lack of sleep and fear of the impending loss of naps.

Who’s with me? Does Daylight Savings mess with your kids?

  1. My children are no longer babies, they are solidly tweens and teens, but I still hate readjusting all of our schedules. I do like that it will stay light longer, and there will be more sunlight and (God willing) warmer temperatures but I swear no matter which way we are moving the clocks I am tired for weeks afterwards.

    1. Well, that’s true. Even when I was childless, I would be tired. Of course, I had Saturdays and Sundays then to just sleep and sleep and nap and nap. Sigh.

  2. Oh I’m so with you! I put my kids to bed last night – after much protesting on their parts – when it was still bright and sunny outside. And now we are getting read to head to the school bus stop in the darkness I really hate it.
