Creating a Meme in Canva

Creating a Meme in Canva

Ask me where I make my images for my blog posts, and 9 times out of 10 I’m going to tell you that I used Canva. It is user-friendly, includes multiple free aspects, and helps bloggers create professional looking images and memes without having to invest in a fancy program.

Because some bloggers are uncomfortable with using a new site for image-making, I created a quick tutorial using Canva.com to make a very basic meme. NOTE: This is not the best looking meme I’ve ever created, and I know it. 🙂

Easy to Use

Canva.com has templates and sizes already prepared for you. You can just click on the design size you need specific to the social media channel you wish to post on and voila — you are given a new screen with a blank canvas.

There are also choices for pre-designed templates that allow you to edit with your own text and substitute your own images if you like.

You can upload your own photos or public domain images, and you’ll have your own little library on the left side. This is a great way to keep your logo ready to watermark your images.

Free

Canva.com is, for the most part, free to use. There are elements that require that you pay, but these are noted by a $ in the corner of the element you are wanting to use. If it’s free, it’ll literally say FREE in the corner…easy enough!

Remember, too, that you can upload your own images into the program. It is a best practice to get your images from your own picture-taking or from a stock photo site where you have permission to use what you download. If you pay for something via a stock photo site, then you are good to go. Otherwise, you need to use a Public Domain image (check out Pixabay.com) or cite your source with an attribution.
