Blessings: The Promise of New (Day 9)
Verse to ponder: Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. Song of Solomon 2:12 NIV
Today was a snow day – and by snow day, I mean a snow day. The kind where you go outside in your way-too-bundled outfit, build a snowman, laugh as you chuck snowballs at each other, and come back in completely drained to take a nap. All of us napped – even the 10 year old who likes to act like she doesn’t enjoy a good nap here and there.
It was certainly cold out there. We had the littles dressed under their jackets and sweatpants in footy pajamas. Miss Sassy Pants was wearing a ski bib. And then I looked over and saw this:
I am consistently amazed at what our Earth does. How amazing that even in the coldest of days and the bleakest of weather, there is hope for something new and beautiful. These sprouts will become gorgeous purple and white iris on our front bank. We even have some sprouting in our dismally bare flower beds by the house.
This is when I realize how much I love spring time. With each flower that bursts forth and each baby that is born (even mine come early May), there is a renewed promise and faith in the fact that no matter how cold or snowy or sad it gets, there will always be something new to make us smile.
