Blessings: Friends Who Get Me (Day 4)

Blessings: Friends Who Get Me (Day 4)

So far, thinking about blessings is already turning my attitude around. Just looking for the good things in my life is keeping me from feeling so dejected and sad about the very minimal things that are negative.

Blessings

Verse to ponder:  A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

Today, I had a chance to hang out with my BFF, Heather. I’ve talked about her tons here on the blog, but she’s one of my friends who gets me. She’s been around for a long time (we’ve been friends for almost twenty years!), and we’ve seen each other through many, many happy and sad situations. Today, she went shopping with me to help me find the perfect outfit for some maternity pictures I hope to have taken by another friend who gets me, Erin. Heather always tells me the truth and doesn’t sugar coat her responses to me. I appreciate this. I need this. She gets me.

Erin and I have been friends since the 7th grade when an unfortunate circumstance caused her to come outside at lunch and comfort me. Since then, we’ve stayed close even though we’ve lived states apart. Every time we get back together, we’re 12 years old again. Actually, she mostly acts her age, and I try my hardest to get her to act stupid. Unless it comes to clogging. Then she’s 12 again. But, she gets me.

And then there’s Jennifer. I became friends with Jennifer when I started teaching. I was so smart that I told her, “I really prefer to work alone.” Famous last words. After she kind of did an, “ohhhkay,” and left me alone, we began talking more and more. By my second year teaching, we were thick as thieves and rocking the 200 building with our ridiculous army crawls into each other’s classrooms to steal staplers. She gets me.

Having people who understand who you are and where you’ve come from is outstanding. God puts the perfect people into your life when you need them, and some of them stick around for a long, long time.

I could name several other people who are my good friends who really and truly get me and love me. But that would take me a long time. And it’s been a long day. After all, I had to go shopping, and then I filled up on Mexican food (Heather and I will basically always get Mexican if given the chance). I need a rest.
