Blessings: DVR (Day 15)
Verse to ponder: This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118: 24
I told you from day 1 of my series that not every day of my Blessings posts would be deep. It’s hard to make things exceptionally deep sometimes. And, I’m looking for the little blessings – the little spots where I can find gratitude in days of busy, harried activities.
Right now, as I’m typing this blog post and chatting with several business friends on Facebook (while running laundry and hoping the kids fall asleep like they should), I’m seeing the trivial blessing of DVR.
Once upon a time, the only way I could see a show that I missed was to set up the VHS (that dates me a bit) or hope that it came on as a rerun. It wasn’t so easy to watch a multitude of TV shows. You had to pick and choose which shows you wanted to follow (of course, there also weren’t 10 million channels from which to choose).
These days, Aaron and I have our favorites: NCIS, Criminal Minds, New Girl, Mindy Project, Modern Family, The Following (Are you watching the new season? Shiver!), Grey’s Anatomy (more me than him), The Blacklist, Brooklyn 99 and a few others.
People ask us all the time if we’ve seen this show or that show. Generally, the answer is no – because we already have this many that we only watch via DVR. In fact, it’s extremely rare if we watch one “live.” We get really excited (okay fine, I get really excited) if we start a show via DVR a few minutes after it has started and then catch up to the live version.
We lead a busy life, but we’re so very blessed. Yes, we’re blessed to have the technology of DVR, but we’re even more blessed to have these three (soon to be four) beautiful children who want to hug us and love us and make us “miss” these ever-important TV shows.
