Blessings: Babies (Day 3)
It’s day three of Lent. I haven’t had ice cream, and so far I’m not missing it too badly. Only 37 days left until I have it again (unless I do the Sunday thing, but I don’t think I’ll try).
During this pre-Easter season, I’m focusing on the many blessings in my life – no matter how small they are.
Verse to ponder: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
Yesterday, we got to see Baby Diva via ultrasound again. What I haven’t told my blog readers is that we had a slight scare with her and the possibility of CMV (cytomegalovirus). I had to have an amniocentesis to rule out any infection on her part, and luckily, it came back negative. Because of the echogenic bowel that the doctor noticed at our 14 week ultrasound (we went ahead and had one that early because of my “advanced maternal age”), we’ve gone back a couple more times.
Luckily, after this time (at 29 weeks), doc decided that all looked great. She’s growing well, and she’s estimated at 3 lbs 10 ounces already. She’s in the 77th percentile for this fetal age, and we’re delighted. We don’t “need” to go back anymore to see her. We’re in maintenance mode.
I’m deliriously happy to hear that all is well with our baby. And I think it’s amazing that we had a chance to see her again with all the fabulous technology that is available to us. We weren’t expecting any 3D images this time, but we were pleasantly surprised.
Here she is trying to avoid the camera. Already, she’s living up to her Diva name and doing the whole, “No, no pictures please,” thing.
And I’ve been wondering why it felt like she was going to come out through my belly button like the alien on Alien. It’s because she’s twisted up like a pretzel in there and constantly playing with her toes. Right at my belly button. We got a great shot of that, too.
The 3D images are great, but there’s still something extremely beautiful about the profile shot. She is just perfect. Cannot wait to hold her and kiss her on the tip of her sweet little nose.
Babies are such amazing miracles. I am beyond blessed to have had the chance to be a mother to four sweet babies – one we haven’t quite met yet. What blessings are you counting today?
