Blessings: 10 Year Olds (Day 23)

Blessings: 10 Year Olds (Day 23)

Verse to ponder: Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and raise my signal to the peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders. Isaiah 49:22

My daughter, who I lovingly blog-named Miss Sassy Pants, turned 10 this year. Well before she was born, well before I was married, well before children were a for real thought in my mind, I told myself that when I had a 10 year old, it would mean I was old… an adult. The year is here. I have a 10 year old, and I still don’t feel old enough.

Tonight, my 10 year old was beyond amazing. I was working hard to meet some work deadlines, and she played with her brothers. She asked if they could go outside to play, and before I knew it she had Flash’s diaper changed and shoes on everyone.

At dinner, she helped me make sure the boys had their food first and then sat with Flash while I hurried to finish a little more work.

And then at bath time, she did the dishes so I could get the boys finished quickly.

Wow. Here I was years ago lamenting the idea of having a 10 year old and worried that it would mean I’d become ancient. Instead, I’m sitting here reveling in the fact that I’m blessed enough to call this amazing 10 year old mine. And in a few short weeks, we introduce our last little one to the crowd who will some day be another 10 year old (after her brothers will have been 10 year olds) that I’ll be amazed I was blessed enough to have.
