Clean that Fridge (a Poem)
My house is a mess. Not in the sense that it’s disgusting or anything but just your basic run-of-the-mill mess.
I want desperately for it to be spotless. Four kids will put a damper on those dreams. So I settle for cleaned surfaces and washed laundry and dishes.
Every now and again, though, I realize what’s lurking behind the silver doors of my side-by-side refrigerator. When we moved, we took the opportunity to clean it out and clean it up. Since then, I’ve done spot cleans and emergency cleans when yet another cup of saved milk is spilled.
If only. If only I wasn’t so tired and so unwilling.
If only someone else would say, “Hey. I could clean that fridge.”
Clean that Fridge
The fridge
a smidge
dirty
yet
we keep everything
there
A spill
that will
drive
me
nuts
until
Until, well
it takes a spell
before
I
give in to
clean
Oh shelves
personal hells
chicken juice
yogurt
and whatever else
Oh fridge
I cringe
at the thought
of cleaning you
one
by
one.
Today happens to be Clean out your Fridge day, and we’re dedicating our November poetry to the theme. Be sure to check out these other posts from my poetry-blogging buddies:

OR we can procrastinate and write poems about it . . .
Adorable. And so clever!
Hmmm . . . I like Karen’s idea. Let’s all close that fridge door and head to the computer screen!
I’m with Karen. I procrastinate until it HAS to be done. Then I go weeks that it is done every time I go shopping. I’m not very consistent these days.
