Wearing the Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is my third full week learning from Pete Cohen. This week, one of the most interesting tools centered on thinking about what we eat. Pete suggested that when we choose something to eat, we need to ask ourselves, “Do I want to wear this?”

What does that mean?

Think about where the food goes when we eat it. If it’s healthy and full of the nutrients our bodies need, then it stands to reason that the food we’ve just ingested will go into our body to nourish it and to be digested as food is meant to be digested.

Similarly, if we choose to eat something not so healthy (let’s say my go-to favorite, the chocolate chip cookies), then we can figure out where that’s going to go. For me, it’s going to my hips or my waist. I’m now, essentially, wearing the chocolate chip cookies.Cookie

I love this train of thought, and it certainly has me thinking. I haven’t yet perfected it, but I will say that I’m (again) more conscious of what I’m doing.

I’m still trying very hard to take a break between bites of food, and I’m working on keeping that duck under wraps. No one is perfect. And Pete has something to say about that as well…we need to give ourselves a break and realize that we aren’t perfect. But, we can become “scientists” and experiment to find out what does work for our bodies.

It’s Mamavation Monday, and that means that you can join us for Mamavation TV. This week, we’ll meet the Mamavation Mom finalists. I’m excited to find out who they are and start supporting them!
