Boob Dilemma

Breastfeeding. For many people, this is a seriously hot topic. Should I or shouldn’t I? How long should I do it? When should I wean? Should I nurse my toddler?

I’m in the thick of the “when should I wean” question now as the Animal turns 11 months TODAY. (Where has this time gone!?)
My experience with Miss Sassy Pants was a wonderful and healing experience for me. I was dealing with some serious personal crisis issues at the time that she was born, so the fact that I made it 13 months with her was astounding.
With the Animal, we have struggled with distraction, an ear infection, and the fact that he nurses to go to sleep — naps and bedtime. It has been so different with him, but it has been just as rewarding.
As we near his 1-year mark, people are starting to ask me if I’m done. My answer? I’m not sure.

I originally planned to stop right beyond a year. But, maybe I’m changing my mind. He’s still nursing so well, and I don’t know that I just want to end the relationship, so to speak. He’s happy with our current situation, I stay at home and am available, and there’s really no reason (other than cultural expectations) to stop any time soon.
Thus, my boob dilemma. To wean or not to wean: that is the question. (Sorry, Shakespeare.)
