VTech's Newest Phone: Maximize your Home Phone

If your household is like my household, you have a home phone and a cell phone for every adult. You may even have cell phones for the teenagers or kids in your family.

Recently, Aaron and I have recognized that we mostly use our cell phones, and our land line is almost pointless to have — and a pointless bill to continue paying.

We’ve been toying with the idea of removing the land line, but I find myself struggling with giving it up. I’ve had this particular number for almost 15 years!

However, a land line and house phone comes with its problems. The ones we’ve encountered have included:

• no phone when there’s no power
• misplacing the phone handset and having a non-charged handset
• paying extra for a phone line we barely use
• frustration when the land line (which is powered by a modem) goes down

Then there’s the problem with having just a cell phone:

• not having the sound on my phone and missing a call
• not being able to share in a phone conversation with our parents and the hubs at the same time
• struggling with using the speaker phone option while I work in the kitchen with two small children at my feet

The new Connect to Cell phone allows up to two cell phones to connect to a base via blue tooth. When you pick up the handset of the base, you can choose which cell line you’d like to use to make a call. And, when a call comes in on one of the cell phone lines, the display area on the handset tells you which line.

It’s very handy. Now, no matter what the situation, we’ll be able to have a phone. We can use the handset of the VTech phone or we can simply use our cell phones. It’s a perfect marriage of two types of phones.

We are learning all the awesome features of the new Connect to Cell, and it really is a nice feeling to have the regular land line-like phone in our hands. We can leave our cell phones charging while we make use of the sleek and very comfortable hand sets.

If we wanted to connect our land line, we could. So, we’d have access to three different lines through one phone. For our house, if we choose to use the land line, this is perfect. However, because of the ease of the Connect to Cell, we’re seriously considering eliminating the land line and using only our cell phones.
