Thirst Project & Skyo
There are plenty of things that I take for granted. I forget sometimes that I’m lucky to have food, water, the Internet, a healthy family. Every now and again, I’m reminded that not everyone in the world has all the luxuries I have.
One of the basic luxuries that too many people do not have is clean water. Think about how many times we leave the water running while we brush our teeth or wash the dishes. Think about how often we run a small load of laundry instead of filling the machine to the brim. And remember how easy it is for us to walk into almost any store and purchase a bottle of clean water.
The Thirst Project is a 501(c)3 organization who works to “raise awareness of and bring solutions to the clean water crisis” all over the world. Here are some staggering statistics:
- 1 child dies every 15 seconds in the world due to diseases related to contaminated water.
- 1 BILLION people in the world don’t have access to clean drinking water.
- An entire community of people can be saved with fresh, clean drinking water for around $5,000–the minimum amount it takes to build a well.
So what can we do about it? Well, believe it or not, with a few clicks of the mouse, we can help give clean water to those who need it most. Skyo is giving back.
Skyo, an online textbook company, is donating $1, up to $25,000, in December to the ThirstProject for every new Twitter Follow and Facebook Like.
