7 Things I'll Do No Matter How Old I Am
My birthday is in a few weeks. I’ll be crossing over the 35 mark and be on that side where I’m actually closer to FORTY than to THIRTY. Heather and I have decided we will just quit counting and simply stay 35. Since we all know that’s actually impossible, I’ve decided there are a few things that I’ll keep doing no matter how old I am.
1. I will always love ice cream. My granddaddy seems to be the trend-setter here. I couldn’t visit him without having a scoop or two of some sort of ice cream. I love it, and no one’s taking that away from me.
2. I will always be excited about Christmas morning. I don’t care how old I get, Christmas Eve will always hold a certain magic about it. My parents did such a fabulous job of teaching us both the true meaning of Christmas and then building the suspense of the presents in the morning. I love doing this for my own kids now (and a little piece of me still believes that I’d better go to sleep so Santa can come visit!).
3. I will always dance like a maniac when no one is looking. I’m pretty sure I have some mad skills when it comes to the dance floor. Of course, I don’t show them off in public because I wouldn’t want anyone to feel like their skills aren’t as advanced as mine. I’m nice like that.
4. I will always hope for a snow day. Yes, I know that snow days can mess up Spring Break. And yes, I realize that I work from home. I don’t care. Snow days are fun, people. There is something about staying glued to the weather channel and only ripping ourselves away long enough to flush the ice cube down the toilet while chanting, “Snow snow snow!”
5. I will always love roller coasters. Aaron and I were just talking about how much we really do love roller coasters and couldn’t imagine not wanting to go on one. We look forward to the day that we can live vicariously through our children and use them as excuses to go to the amusement parks.
6. I will always have inappropriate mental responses to completely innocent words and phrases. Small confession: I don’t hear the word “balls” or “wood” without snickering to myself and thinking, “That’s what she said.” I realize it’s childish, but I can’t stop myself. Aaron understands my little laugh-cough that I do, and I guess that’s all that matters.
7. I will always, and forever, be afraid of bugs. I can’t seem to get over this childhood phobia. Crickets and other jumping-type bugs take the lead in the freaky bugs brigade for me. My kids think I’m a superhero when it comes to dealing with the six to eight legged creatures, but inside I’m screaming like a little girl.
What are things you swear you’ll never stop doing no matter how old you are?

Roller coasters and ice cream! I’m with ya!! I’m okay with bugs and could do without snow days for the most part. They just mess up my whole schedule!
I understand the snow days problem. Wondering if I would feel differently if I wasn’t a teacher, too? If I had to go to a job that didn’t adhere to snow days?
