2015 Intentions
Last year, I set goals for 2014. They were very specific and, I believe, very attainable. I didn’t attain all of them, but several at least had a good showing. Many have expressed their frustrations with the word “resolution” because it feels like setting yourself up for failure — most people don’t follow through with their New Year’s Resolutions.
A group of friends that I love and adore have been sharing their personal intentions this year. I love this idea. An intention is defined as:
1. an act or instance of determining mentally upon some action or result.
2. the end or object intended; purpose.
This feels meaningful to me, and so I shall now embark upon stating my 2015 Intentions.
1. I will say NO more often – My personality wants to please everyone. Everyone. This gets very stressful. So, I need to make some choices about what I say “yes” to and what I turn down.
2. I will be more present – In general, my phone is in my hand at all times. I’m going to stop doing this. I’ll turn the ringer on and put it on the counter in the kitchen. If someone needs me, I’ll hear it ring or ding or ping. If I need to make a call, I’ll use it. Otherwise, I need to be around my family and paying attention to them and this house. Once upon a time, I didn’t have a phone that could do all of these fancy things — I survived. I’m determined to do that more this year and in the future.
3. I will work when it’s time to work – Small children will not be harmed if I don’t work 24/7. Small children (my own) will likely be hurt if I do continue to work as much as I was working because it will mean I’m not paying enough attention to them (see #2). So, I intend to work when it’s time to work so I can play when it’s time to play.
4. I will take care of myself – At almost 23 weeks pregnant, I’m feeling the strains and pains of a growing stomach and remembering the pain I was in with Flash. It was horrifying. Part of that was because I wasn’t even trying to be healthy through either food or activity. So, with this baby (I think we’re going to start calling her Diva), I intend to be healthy now (yes, I’ll enjoy some chocolate here and there) by eating better, drinking my water, and continuing to move. Then, after she’s born, I intend to pick up the running again. Last year, my sister and I completed 14 5ks. I intend to work toward 15 this year for #15in2015. We took care of our first one today, so there you go.
This also includes continuing on the path to a healthier toxin-free lifestyle. I’ve learned a ton in my year with Simply Aroma essential oils, and I am excited to see where 2015 takes me and my team.
What do you intend to do this year? Share with me!
We’re linking up resolutions for TuesdayTen next week, so I haven’t actually written mine down yet. I’m aiming for a continuation of the good things I had going on last year, though!
This is a great rethinking of the New Year resolution. Thanks.
