2014's Goals and Aspirations
2013 was a busy and great year. We welcomed another little person into our household. I published my children’s book. Lots of weight was lost while I was part of Mamavation Bootcamp 17.
Last year, I had two big goals.
First, I was pregnant, so I wanted to tone the body that I had at the time. My intention was to work out safely while pregnant. I didn’t succeed so well here because my back ended up hurting so badly. It wasn’t until after Flash was born when I joined the Bootcamp that all of the weight loss and toning began. From the morning that Flash was born to today, one of the last days of December ’13, I have lost 59 pounds. I fit in to clothes that I haven’t worn (comfortably) in what seems like forever. I’m able to move easily. The last time I attempted a 5k — even though I walked — I was never actually winded.
Secondly, I wanted to get my house and my mind organized. Never happened. I try to make lists. I even bought an organizer for my desk. But seriously, when a baby joins the family (especially a third baby), it’s like my entire brain throws up all over the place. That’s not even taking in to account the 2 year old tornado we have running through the house.
So, it’s time to make some very specific and attainable goals for 2014. The goals I had last year were ok, but they weren’t measurable. I’m going to use the SMART goal process to make goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely.
- Lose a total of 14 lbs by the end of 2014. This would get me to my ultimate goal!
- Participate in 14 5ks by the end of 2014 (using #14in2014).
- Have at least 3 book signings for my children’s book in 2014.
- Wear actual shorts (not Bermuda shorts) in the summer of 2014 and feel comfortable in them.
- Create an organizational routine for work, blogging, family, and fun by summer of 2014 and then maintain throughout the rest of the year.
- Get into the habit of creating weekly meal plans for my family (I was doing this for a while) that include healthy, non-GMO, scratch-made options as much as possible.
- Expand my knowledge and comfort level with essential oils as I begin my Simply Aroma venture.
Phew. Those are definitely specific and measurable. Now, to do it!
What are your 2014 goals?

I love this approach to your goals! Wearing shorts comfortably is a good one. This year needs to be the year that I FINALLY lose the weight.
You can, and you will! I can’t wait to wear shorts!
Love your goals, you will crush them!!!
Thanks, Pam!!
So proud of you and your book!!! I can’t wait to be accountability partners with you!!!!
Heck yeah! 🙂
LOVE the SMART method for goal setting!!
However, for this year, I am simply choosing to be kinder to myself. I’ve been pretty hard on myself in years past and I am NOT having a repeat of this year!
Have a happy new year!!!
I love your idea of simply being kinder. This is a great goal. I should probably ADD that to my list.
I also need to plan meals for my family. I might be looking for your menus, so save some time.
Good luck in 2014
I will have to post my menus. This is a great idea!
You can do anything! You are super woman and I can’t wait to see you conquer each one.
You’re the best, my friend!!
Very specific and awesome goals! I know you will do great.
Thank you, Kia! 🙂
What great goals lady…..I was thinking of maybe having a 14 in 14 for races as well…assuming I count real races, virtual, and maybe a few on my own!
Thanks! You can TOTALLY do 14 in 14. 🙂
Well done on your weight loss so far.
Good luck with your goals – you will rock them 🙂
Thank you, Sarah! I’m glad we’ve met!
FIFTY-NINE POUNDS?! You are so amazing. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you this year and you’ve become such an inspirational force to me.
Your #4 is one of my life goals, actually. Even as a kid, I hated shorts. 🙂
Looking forward to cheering you on in 2014!
Thanks, Kristin! I cannot wait to be in shorts again!! 🙂
